Ormond McGill's book is a somewhat old fashioned, almost quaint book covering the skills required to become a professional Stage Hypnotist. It is also one of the few books available on the subject. Ormond McGill is considered to be the current world authority on Stage Hypnosis, and a quick flick through this book certainly gives that impression. The book starts with a series of hypnotic experiments to get you comfortable with the concepts, then teaches a number of hypnotic inductions, and finally moves into designing and marketing a hypnotic show, a section that is dated, and something that most readers will probably not be particularly interested in, but that is a minor complaint. The book is called the new encyclopedia for a reason - the list of induction techniques is truly extensive. If you would like to dabble in hypnosis with friends and family, then this is a good place to begin as the exercises start out very simple and allow you to build your skills slowly. There is no therapy or self-hypnosis here, but it is an interesting read and will add some interesting hypnotic skills to your repertoire. There is even a section on hypnotizing animals. So if you ever feel the need to hypnotize a lobster, you know where to look. |
