Self-Hypnosis can be used very successfully to help with sleep problems. One thing that many people who cannot sleep have in common is that they have a lot of internal dialogue and its often very loud,or very fast. No wonder they can't sleep. One of the simplest ways to improve your ability to sleep is to take control of this voice, but rather than try to stop it, just slow it down - make it really dreary and dull. As it slows it will probably become quieter too and you will find that this is actually a very powerful way to relax. What if that voice suddenly felt the need to yawwwwwn. Perhaps there is someone you know, or someone from the tv who you find really dull and monotonous. How about turning this voice into their voice? If you have trouble sleeping because you are physically restless, then try recording a relaxation induction based on body relaxation. A more formal way to get to sleep is Betty Erickson's method, just remember to keep your internal voice slow and quiet - as if you were reading a bedtime story to a child. |
